Applying for Financial Aid

Filling Out Tax Form

Financial aid is available to help cover costs to attend community college, 4yr colleges/university or a vocational/career program.

Costs to attend typically include room & board, tuition/fees, books, and other college-related expenses.

HOW TO APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID

  1. Fill out the “24-25” Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (Available sometime in Dec 2023).

  • Visit FAFSA for more info and to apply (early December).

   2. Submit FAFSA by March 2nd to be considered for State Grants.

  • Carlmont automatically submits your Cal Grant GPA.

  • Students not eligible to submit FAFSA use the Dream Act.

  • Visit Webgrants for more info.

   3. If applying to private colleges, check financial aid websites for:

  • Institutional (campus) financial aid offered and how to apply.

  • Priority deadlines to submit FAFSA or other applications.

  • Does the campus require The CSS Profile?

   4. If applying to out-of-state PUBLIC universities:

  • Check for in-state tuition breaks through WUE

  • Check campus website for financial aid residency criteria.

 Where to Search for Scholarships

  • Check the colleges’ (you’re applying to) financial aid pages for tips.

  • Check Naviance’s Scholarship List.

  • Check if parents’ employers, church you are attending or any programs you are involved in offer scholarships.

  • Scholarship applications are free (if not, then it may be a scam).
