Applying for Financial Aid

Financial aid is available to help cover costs to attend community college, 4yr colleges/university or a vocational/career program.
Costs to attend typically include room & board, tuition/fees, books, and other college-related expenses.
HOW TO APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID

Fill out the “24-25” Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (Available sometime in Dec 2023).

Visit FAFSA for more info and to apply (early December).
2. Submit FAFSA by March 2nd to be considered for State Grants.

Carlmont automatically submits your Cal Grant GPA.

Students not eligible to submit FAFSA use the Dream Act.

3. If applying to private colleges, check financial aid websites for:

Institutional (campus) financial aid offered and how to apply.

Priority deadlines to submit FAFSA or other applications.

4. If applying to out-of-state PUBLIC universities:

Check for in-state tuition breaks through WUE

Check campus website for financial aid residency criteria.

Check the colleges’ (you’re applying to) financial aid pages for tips.

Check Naviance’s Scholarship List.

Check if parents’ employers, church you are attending or any programs you are involved in offer scholarships.

Scholarship applications are free (if not, then it may be a scam).
